Part of the journey as a sannyasin is the practice of active meditations, invented by Osho.
Most people who practice traditional meditations are familiar with activities such as Sufi whirling, Yoga, mindful practices, and the formal walk during Vipassana and Zen sittings. Participants focus on presence and development together with taking care of the body’s health during long sittings, while whirling supports states of ecstasy.
Osho’s ashram attracted many Westerners, and he saw how restless they were, having a lot of mental activity and noise, which made it nearly impossible to experience silence or to achieve a relaxed sitting posture.
It is for these kinds of people that Osho structured the so-called active meditations to help the meditators to access meditativeness.
The methods are often built up in several stages: an intense or more calm activity to support the release of physical and mental stress, thoughts, and emotions, followed by reflective and silent phases. Mostly guided by specific music that Osho chose to support each stage.
Since the development of these meditation techniques, they have become known by many, both inside and outside Osho meditation centers.
On the Internet, you can find most descriptions and music by searching for Osho Meditations.
