On this page we love to share a little bit about an ancient gift,
the parable of the True Self on its journey, inspired by the following quote:
“Know the âtman as the lord of the chariot,
the body as only the chariot,
know also intelligence as the driver;
know the minds (sic) as the reins.”
Katha Upanishads verses 1.3.3

This quote, which was first found in the Vedas, has been used by Gurdjieff to explain, in his own way, the spiritual seeker.
By using the parable, Gurdjieff illustrated an uncoordinated “equipage” consisting of four distinct parts:
body, emotions, intellect or mind, and the one who travels, Intelligence itself.
He described our spiritual journey as “The Work”,
which means to put the different parts,
“the Carriage, the Horses, and the Coachman”,
into a “right relationship”.
All teachers or gurus tend to awaken the traveler, who is mostly asleep.
When this happens, when the traveler realizes he is the Master of this carriage,
he can direct the driver, enjoy the journey, and reach his destination.
