The word “remedy “ means a way to solve, cure, or treat something we want to prevent or don’t like — often used in the context of our health. The remedies we share here have been proven by experience and may help others, too.
Nevertheless, we recommend that you visit your doctor if you have health issues.
Before we offer suggestions to improve your health, we’d like to share a very simplified explanation of our body’s natural rhythm, which we can recognize in every process: in the breath, the pulse of the heart, when contracting and relaxing muscles, eating, digesting, and letting go of what is no longer needed.
This rhythm is made possible, among other aspects, by the cooperation between the Sympathetic and Parasympathetic Nervous Systems.
The former promotes activity, the latter promotes rest and digestion, alternating regularly.
During the phases of rest and digest, the Parasympathetic System works as a doctor, supporting recovery from exertion and stress, repairing cells, and maintaining our long-term health. It calms all bodily processes, such as heart rate, blood pressure, and breathing; it also stimulates digestion and boosts the immune system. It reduces inflammation and is taking care of all energy-conserving functions that are essential for healing.
Without the support and care of the Sympathetic Nervous System, this doctor cannot do its job.
It is the Sympathetic System that mostly activates the body and mind. It increases pulse and breathing rates and raises blood pressure. It makes us alert and supports us in the doing mode. In short, this system enables us to avoid dangerous situations, to fight or run when needed.
So, both systems are needed for a healthy life, and the balance between them is important.
Not only does it benefit our physical health, it is also needed at all levels of human existence and functioning, including growth, maturation, and learning.
Nowadays, however, most people lost the balance between activity and rest. We are often in the doing mode, active with our body, with our eyes on screens, in our thoughts, and in all bodily processes. Besides this, most people live in environments that overstimulate their beings.
The information about these processes may not have been known before, but can be easily recognized through our own experience.
The simplest example is by looking at a wound on our hand. It only heals when we don’t scratch it all the time.
And this is true for the whole body-mind system we live in. It is worth having some understanding about this balance, because healing is not possible without, no matter what kind of remedy or treatment we think of.
