A new student approached the master and asked how long it would take him to gain enlightenment if he practiced seriously.
“10 Years,” the master said.
“Well, how about if i really work hard and double my effort?” the student said.
“In that case, 5 years,”, answered the master.
“I don’t think you understand”, said the student.
“I will dedicate my life, and meditate night and day! I will fast and practice the chants non-stop.
How long will it take?”
“20 Years,” was the master’s answer.
“How come the time keeps getting longer?” the frustrated student said.
The master looked at the student seriously and said:
“a student in such a hurry learns slowly. “
